End of Life Practitioner Knowledge and Skills Workshop

  • Life Rites Funerals 118 Durham Street Hurstville, NSW, 2220 Australia (map)

End-of-Life Practitioner; Knowledge and Skill Development Workshops

The team at Life Rites have broad and extensive knowledge across the end-of-life spectrum, from preliminary and ongoing doula support and mapping the health and aged care systems through to dying at home, holistic body care, the legalities of death care in NSW, and expertise in ceremonial and funeral rites.

After two successful workshops at the start of the year, we are opening our funeral home again to offer face to face workshops for Doula’s and end-of-life professionals looking to expand their practical skills and knowledge. The two day workshop will take place on October 25 & 26 at our Boutique Funeral Home in Hurstville, South West of Sydney.

Participants are required to have completed prior training in end-of-life care.

The workshop will run over two days and cover:

  1. Where do I begin? Setting up, starting out, distilling your origin story to define your offering in death care.

  2. The practicalities of death:

What happens to a dying body.

Preparing for and conducting a vigil.

Being in the presence of a deceased person.

Using a cold plate and other cooling methods.

    Introduction to holistic body care.

Shrouding and moving a body from the place of death.

    Paperwork required in NSW.

  3. Providing a continuum of care: Understanding where the doula fits in to the health care networks and funeral and death care systems.

What participants have said:

“All the sessions were honestly invaluable. However, as an emerging doula, the knowledge and skills development talk stood out as key foundational learning for me. It provided a practical, ethical framework for how to envision, develop, refine and maintain a professional practice.”

“Victoria led from the heart, with Wisdom, passion, compassion and authentically.”

“It reaffirmed that I am "in the right space". That this is the vocation and service I was always meant to do. I am excited to continue to promote the essence of Doula-ing, ceremony and build grief and death literacy in my community. I now have more knowledge to have the conversations and assist with after-death home care if I am asked.”

“In previous trainings I've done there was a massive emphasis on pushing past 'imposter syndrome' and building confidence by starting the work. There is value in this perspective, but the Life Rites training affirmed what I have always felt: that safe, ethical practice requires deep planning.”
