Memorials and Living Wakes

Life Rites Celebrant Sarah Barry joyously emcees a colourful living wake with the gorgeous client bedecked in rainbows and sunflowers seated behind her onstage, listening in rapt attention.

A memorial is a ceremony where the coffin is not present. Living wakes, on the other hand, offer a ‘funeral’ in which the dying person can celebrate and be celebrated in open sharing about their death, whilst still alive. This can be a particularly potent practice for people in the early stages of dementia.

Memorials may follow a funeral directly, be many weeks or months after a funeral, or may be in place of a funeral. Living wakes can happen whenever you feel it is right.

Many of our clients work with us to create such events which may be as small as two or three people on a clifftop, a three-act extravaganza in a live music venue, a series of eloquent speeches given during a restaurant meal - or anything else you can dream up.

Creativity and innovation run deep in the Life Rites team so please be in touch to craft the memorial or living wake you wish for. Our event coordination work is priced per scope, with any further chosen elements and services priced per our funeral services fees.
